The markups tab is where you will add all markups for a budget. Markup types include:

  • Fee
  • Bonding
  • Insurance
  • Permits
  • Contingency
  • Other

Markups are able to reference sections of the budget in a formula. This will be useful for markups such as Fee, which is normally calculated as a percentage of the overall budget.

Add Markups

To add markups to the budget, navigate to the Markups header in the Main Budget, and click "Edit Budget."

Next, click "Add Markup," and select a markup type from the menu (Bonding, Contingency, Fee, Insurance, Other, or Permits).

Next, add a description to your markup, and select one of the following formulas:

  • Fixed Amount
  • % of Direct Cost (Division 2-48)
  • % of Total Cost (Division 1-48)

Enter the fixed amount or percentage in the Amount column, and your markup will be calculated under Total.

When you are finished adding your markups, click "Save Changes." Here, you will have the option to save your changes directly to the main budget, or create a new change request.

Included Markups

To include other markups in a markup formula, add them to the Included Markups column. The totals of the included markups will be added to the formula when performing a calculation.

For example, if a Fee should include the Total Cost + Markups, it will have a formula of % of Total Cost, and Included Markups will include all other markups.

Navigate to the column and select the markups you wish to include. Buildr will apply the selected formula to both the budget and any included markups.

Note: A markup can only be included in the markup formula if it does not cause a circular reference.
For example, if a fee references a bonding markup, the bond markup cannot reference itself nor the associated fee.
